What it changes in the music

In a delay, feedback can create additional repeats that become progressively quieter when the loop loses energy. Filtering and other processing inside the loop alter those repeats. High or unstable feedback can accumulate strongly, so begin cautiously. A setting that behaves well after one note may become crowded when a busy phrase continuously supplies new material.

A small experiment

With a low delay level, count repeats after one note. Then play a denser phrase and hear how old and new echoes combine. Reduce feedback if the trail stops serving the current line.

Keep this distinction clear

Feedback amount and effect output level are different controls. Turning down the audible return may not change the internal persistence or stability of the feedback loop.
