What it changes in the music

Moving a part into another register changes its relationship with other roles. A bass phrase an octave higher may become more audible on small speakers but compete with a chord. Harmonics extend beyond the main notes, so register alone does not create perfect spectral separation. Consider note range together with articulation, density and timbre.

A small experiment

Move one motif up an octave while keeping timing fixed. Compare it with the original in the complete arrangement and identify which surrounding parts now compete.

Keep this distinction clear

Register is not identical to equalization. Transposing notes changes their musical pitch, while an equalizer changes the balance of frequency components in the existing signal.
